Volunteers available for work.
Are
you an NGO in need of help during the summer?
We might have the answer!
The Tall Ships
European Voyage of Understanding 2006 is a bi-communal project to send six young
Turkish-Cypriots and six young Greek-Cypriots on a ten-day adventure aboard a
600-ton square-rigged sailing ship.
More details will be found at: www.sweetlemons.org.uk
As a condition of joining the Tall Ships voyage, we are
asking the 12 young Cypriots to commit to doing the equivalent of one week’s voluntary work for NGOs, on
either side of the green line, at a time of their choice in the period July to
September 2006. Participating client-NGOs who accept our volunteers will be
asked to write short reports on them at the conclusion of the work.
NGOs who wish to use our volunteers are asked to come and
meet them at the Goethe Centre, Nicosia, on the afternoon of Saturday 8th
July. Our volunteers, male and female, are aged between 16 and 25. They have been selected by interview from
over 120 applicants. Some of them are
university graduates. All are fit and
eager to help.
Participating NGOs are asked to come to the Goethe Centre Library at 3.0pm on Saturday
8th July and make a short (no more than 5 minutes)
presentation. There will then be time
for our 12 volunteers to meet you, discuss opportunities and make
arrangements. The meeting will last for
no more than two hours. The Library is air-conditioned!
Past experience has shown that there are many ways in which
temporary volunteer effort (internships) can be useful to NGOs, for example: helping to run
trips for young children; helping at the Kofinou Reception area for political
refugees; helping disadvantaged children with their school studies; help with
an NGO’s IT administration or web site design.
If you are interested in participating in this scheme then
please contact the undersigned as soon as possible.
