Article
The event will focus on the issue of research communication and gender. This workshop forms part of the overall research communication strategy in the areas of life sciences and biotechnology . The Commission will use this event to assess whether there is a need for communicating science differently to women and men.

The workshop has been jointly organised by the European Commission, Directorate general Research, Directorate for Biotechnology, Agriculture and Food in collaboration with the Directorates for  Health and Science in Society. It will bring together a multidisciplinary group of experts to present and discuss theoretical and empirical data, as well as practical experiences.

The following topics will be discussed:
• Are there differences between the male and female brain?
• Do women and men perceive health risks differently?
• Do women and men process scientific information differently?
• Should there be a difference when teaching girls or boys science in school?

This workshop is aimed at co-ordinators and participants of research projects funded in the area of Life Sciences under the 6th Framework Programme for Research. However, it is also open to anyone who may have an interest in the above topic.
